My brother (Richard the Unclean, the bigger one) found a supply of these at his local Fleet Farm, and is coming down to IL March 13th. The 1/2" ones are 5' long, and will run $3. The 3/8" ones are 4' long and will run $2. Both are electric fence guideposts, and thus the last ~1" is tapered to a point. If you would like him to bring some down please let me know by the evening of Wednesday, March 10th so he can call the store and ensure they have enough.

Ducky, if you're going to be at the park this Wednesday (March 17, 2010) I'll bring those three (3) 1/2"x5' fiberglass rods. Apparently they also had 11/16"x6' rods for the next time he comes down from MN.
